The International Festival of Music and Dance of Granada celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2011, so the programme also included some other very significant commemorations of the cultural history of Europe. Our motto was "We are the Festival" and we thereby invited artists, the public, institutions and companies to enjoy this festival of culture with us.
Europe stands out as the continent with the widest network of cultural festivals which spread their artistic, educational and social influence to the millions who enjoy them. In this context, since its creation in 1952, the Granada Festival has played a unique role and it continues, year by year, not only to prove the contribution that culture can make to people’s welfare but also to spread the European cultural heritage in all its wonderful and rich diversity.
Even after 60 editions, the Granada Festival of today is in tune with its times. Its programmes, its contents and its staging are all living instruments of cultural, educational, touristic and socio-economic activity whose common denominator is the emotions.
We are grateful for the essential support we receive from boards of governors, from the circle of sponsors and from the Festival’s advisory council as well as from all those who take part and enjoy the Festival’s activities each year. This publication is issued as a reminder of all the most outstanding moments of a very special edition for the Festival.
